The Ten Questions in Ten Questions God Asked

The Ten Questions in Ten Questions God Asked
A few people have asked me what the ten questions are, so I thought as a kind of preview to the book I would post the questions along with a brief summary of the context in which they occur.

Question #1: Genesis 3:9 –“Where are you?”

After Adam and Eve had eaten the fruit, they heard the sound of God walking in the garden so they hid in the bushes. “Then the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?’”

Question #2: Genesis 4:6 –“Why are you angry?”

Cain’s sacrifice was not acceptable to God so Cain sulked. “Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?’”

Question #3: 1 Kings 19:9 –“What are you doing here?”

Elijah had just incurred the wrath of Queen Jezebel so he ran and hid in the wilderness. “...And behold, the word of the Lord came to him and He said to him, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’”

Question #4: Job 38:1-2 –“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?”

Job had been crying out to God for vindication and an explanation for his intense suffering. “Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said, ‘Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?’”

Question #5: Matthew 9:28 –“Do you believe I am able to do this?”

Two blind men were following Jesus wanting Him to heal them. “When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him and He said to them, ‘Do you believe I am able to do this?’”

Question #6: Mark 8:29 –“Who do you say that I am?”

Jesus questioned the disciples about what others thought of Him and then what they thought of Him. “And He continued by questioning them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’”

Question #7: Luke 24:17 –“What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

Two men were walking and talking about all the events concerning Jesus, when suddenly the resurrected Jesus joined them, but they did not recognize Him. “He asked them, ‘What are you discussing together as you walk along?’”

Question #8: John 1:38 –“What do you seek?”

Two men began to follow Jesus after John called Him the Lamb of God. “And Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, ‘What do you seek?’”

Question #9: John 6:67 – “You do not want to go away also, do you?”

Jesus had just preached some difficult teachings and several followers left, unable to accept it. “So Jesus said to the twelve, ‘You do not want to go away also, do you?’”

Question #10: Acts 9:3-4 -- “Why are you persecuting Me?”

Saul was on his way to Damascus to persecute more Christians when Jesus appeared to him. “As he [Saul] was traveling...suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him and he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying of him, ‘Saul, Saul, Why are you persecuting Me?’”

Welcome!

Welcome!
This blog will be dedicated to the discussion of the upcoming book, Ten Questions God Asked. The idea for this book came into being in 2003 when I was reading Genesis and started thinking about the question God asked Adam in chapter 3 and then Cain in chapter 4. After that, I wondered how many times God asked someone a question in the Bible and thought it would be interesting to see what the circumstances of those questions were. I quickly found ten questions and began writing out some ideas in a notebook. What started as one or two hand-written pages on each question soon became much longer as I typed it out, adding more material as time went on. Over the years there have been many revisions and corrections made and several people have offered their feedback. However, with the exception of my family reading it, the manuscript just sat on my hard drive. I didn't know what else to do with it.

Then about a year and a half ago I was contacted by Wine Press Group and started to consider self-publication. After a lot of thought and deliberation (and many more revisions) I decided to move ahead with publishing the book. It's hard to believe that this long process is nearly at an end! My hope and prayer is that this book will be used by God to encourage people in their walk with Him.
